3 Reasons Why You’ll Love Spring In Hilton Head Island

Ah, the spring. Fresh air, birds singing, and finally time to shed those winter layers. And there’s no better place to enjoy the spring than here in Hilton Head Island. From March through May the temperatures and conditions on Hilton Head are at their most pleasant. Plus, the springtime sees significantly fewer crowds than you’d find during the summer season.

That’s just the warm-up for why you need to check out Hilton Head Island this spring. Read on to discover the three big reasons why Hilton Head is the perfect spring destination!

1. Golfing Galore

With over 23 private and public championship golf courses, there’s certainly no shortage of places to tee off at Hilton Head Island. Although all the golf courses are fun and beautiful, each one comes with a unique set of challenges that’ll give even the pros a run for their money. And that line is no joke because the PGA tour stops by Hilton Head every April for the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament.

Since its inaugural round in 1969, the RBC Heritage has served as South Carolina’s only PGA-level tournament. The tournament takes place in Hilton Head’s Harbour Town Golf Links course at the beautiful Sea Pines Resort every April. If your trip lines up with the tournament schedule, then be sure to reserve your front-row seats to the action by booking one of our Sea Pines vacation rentals.

2. Beautiful Beaches

Seeing as Hilton Head is an island, it should come as no surprise that there’s plenty of beach to go around. What visitors do find surprising is just how beautiful and enjoyable these beaches can be. Whether you’re taking a simple stroll at golden hour or heading out on the water by kayak or paddle board, there’s plenty of fun to be had on any of Hilton Head’s sandy beaches in the spring.

However, although the soothing sand and water activities certainly make for some fun in the sun, they’re just one part of what makes these beaches special. Another fantastic element to Hilton Head’s beaches is that loggerhead sea turtles begin nesting on them in late spring. Lucky visitors can witness the 400-pound mother turtles scooting up onto the sand at night to lay upwards of 120 eggs. Then, 50-60 days later, the baby sea turtles hatch and emerge to make their sprint to the water.

You can learn more about Hilton Head’s sea turtles and their nesting season by checking out the Sea Turtle Protection page on the Hilton Head Island town website.

3. Exciting Events & Festivals

Last but not least on our list of reasons to visit Hilton Head Island this spring are the many events and festivals you can check out. We’ve already mentioned the RBC Heritage golf tournament above, but there are plenty more fun music, art, and culinary events that are well-worth experiencing in the spring.

One of the more popular annual spring events is the Hilton Head Island Wine & Food Festival, which takes place over a week at the end of every March. In addition to this festival’s titular wining and dining, you can enjoy beer tastings, live music, and the chance to mingle with Hilton Head’s friendly locals. You may even get the chance to chat and cheers a glass with us at this one!
